Angel vs. Monster

Edy, and I am sure all babies, are a lot Angel and at times a lot Monster.

When she is sleeping deeply and totally relaxed, she literally looks like a little angel, or at least like what I think of as an angel.  She is so peaceful you wonder if she is still breathing and check often to make sure.  The monster emerges at 3 AM when you are a dead asleep and she is ready to eat and play.  She doesn't scream or really cry at first...just grunts and moans trying to wake us nicely.  We don't budge hoping that this is just her being restless in her sleep.  She'll go back to sleep on her own? right? We don't move for fear she'll sense us.  The grunts and moans turn to random shouts, not yet quite a cry.  As the monster continues to surface there is that "wild cat" scream followed by tears and more screams and screeches.  Against our best efforts the monster has arrived and we can't ignore her.  Final stage of the Monster is when she has a combination of the "wild cat" scream, followed by the quivering chin with the billy goat sound.  There is no more ignoring.

Sleeping peacefully like an Angel at the Basalt Block Party!

She is an Angel again when she is wide awake, happy and staring into the distance, taking in all of her surroundings while she gentle rests in your arms.  We think she is so content and happy, our back is getting tired, she'll let us set her down on her play mat so she can entertain herself...right?  Just try it and see what happens.

She'll lay there for 5 maybe even 10 minutes on a good day.  Then once again slowly, but surely the monster quietly emerges.  this time it starts with flailing arms and legs, a trick to make us think she is just playing, the flailing then is accompanied by a few moans and groans which sound happy and content.  Then a moan and groan with a small squeek.  We leave her  alone thinking that she may realize that she likes her play mat and lay quietly again.  But NO, the Monster keeps coming to the surface and with in 15 minutes we give in and pick her up.  Exactly what she wants.  As soon as she is picked up the Angel returns.
Checking out her surroundings and taking it all in!

In the last 8 weeks we have come to realize that the Angel is only present when she is sleeping or in being held...Yikes, have we created the Monster by holding her, playing with her and loving her too much?  Well if that is case we will deal with it, she is still the cutest Monster I have ever seen!
